I’m Laura Maksymetz, a Registered Psychotherapist providing in-person therapy in Burlington and online across Ontario.

I believe that when people are met with warmth, respect, and belief in their capability, it creates an opportunity for self-exploration that is a powerful part of driving change. Even when you feel stuck, you hold wisdom about your life. I see my role as accompanying you in gaining clarity about what you want and identifying opportunities for action and growth. Once you hold greater awareness about what is going on, you have choices. This can be an empowering experience.

I have experience working with diverse folks in areas such as anxiety, relationship issues, self-esteem, depression, and trauma. I’m passionate about supporting people feeling the weight of life transitions involving identity, career, parenting, and their evolving relationships.

My Approach

I see therapy quite simply, as a conversation – likely one you don’t have anywhere else. Therapy can lift you out of the daily intricacies of life to step back and tell your story. My hope is to support you in understanding your story to determine the parts that may or may not work for you. I help you get perspective about your current situation in order to more clearly identify your strengths, patterns of thoughts & interactions, and hopes. You may then better understand what you need, such as actionable change or to process your experiences. My goal is to get you to a place of clarity and readiness for new possibilities in how you experience yourself, your relationships, and your ambitions.

What To Expect

Our initial sessions will feel more structured, as I see value in building a flexible roadmap for our work together. I want to hear about what is important to you, what you’re hoping to achieve in therapy, and the progress that is meaningful to you. From there, sessions will be guided by our collaborative conversation.

I see you as the expert of your life, knowing what feels important to focus on. I anchor our work through the questions I ask – holding onto your reflections over time to encourage insights, and keeping us connected to your identified hopes for the outcome of therapy.

You decide the length of our time together, whether short-term or long-term. My goal is to help get you on your chosen path forward that you can confidently continue following independently.
